Self tapping screws do exactly what the name suggests. They tap their own threads as you drive them into a hole. You do not need to thread the hole beforehand. Just drill a pilot hole and drive the screw. This saves time and cuts labor costs on any assembly line.
The tip is sharp and has cutting edges. As the screw turns, the tip digs into the material and removes it. The thread then forms a snug fit. No pre tapped hole required. The screw creates its own path.
Flat Head: 82 degree countersunk shape. Sits level with the surface after installation. Ideal for finished products where you do not want screws sticking out.
Wafer Head: Low and wide. Clamps down hard but does not stand tall. Commonly used for pocket holes and thin sheet metal.
Pan Head: Domed on top, flat on the bottom. The most common choice for general assembly jobs.
Hex Head: Six sides. Use a wrench or socket. Good when you need extra torque.
Truss Head: Wide and low. Spreads pressure over a larger area without adding much height.
Button Head: Low rounded dome. Looks clean. Works well where you want a lower head height.
Fine Thread: More threads per inch. Holds better in thin metal and hard plastics. Harder to pull out.
Coarse Thread: Fewer threads per inch. Engages faster. Good for softer materials like wood and regular plastic.
