What are security screws?
Security screws are fasteners with non‑standard drive types. Ordinary screwdrivers cannot remove them. You need a special matching bit. This makes them ideal for places where theft or tampering is a concern.
Where are they used?

Which drive type should you pick?
- Torx pin – 6‑lobe star with center pin. Requires hollow bit. Very common for license plates, public equipment.
- One way – Slotted drive with ramp. Can be tightened with standard driver but cannot be loosened. One‑time installation.
- Spanner – Two small holes. Requires two‑pin bit. Good for signs and panels.
- Clutch head – Oval recess with center pin. Standard slotted or Phillips won't work.
- Snake eye – Two curved slots. Also called pig nose. Very secure.
- Pentalobe – 5‑point star. Used on electronics, mobile devices, game consoles.
- Triangle – Triangular recess. Common on electrical panels, public restrooms.
Head styles
- Flat head – Countersunk, sits flush. Smooth finish.
- Button head – Low dome. Attractive for visible applications.
- Pan head – Wide rounded profile with flat underside. Large bearing area for stable clamping.
