Zinc Plated Steel Hex Head Machine Screws Coarse Thread For Machinery Assembly

Machine screws are fully threaded fasteners that require a pre tapped hole or nut. They do not cut their own threads. Available in multiple head styles: pan, flat, hex, button, cheese, truss, round, fillister. Drive options include Phillips, slotted, and hex socket. Materials: stainless steel, brass, steel, aluminium, bronze. M2 to M6. Class 4.8 to 12.9.

What sets machine screws apart from other fasteners?

They do not create their own threads. Instead, they rely on existing threads in a tapped hole or a nut. That is the key difference. Self tapping screws cut threads. Machine screws engage with threads already there.

    Why choose machine screws?

Consistent clamping force. You get the same tension every time. Easy disassembly. You can take them apart without damaging the threads. Precision fit. The thread profile matches standard taps and dies. Versatile. One screw works across many applications.

    Decision 1 – Head style

Head style When to pick it
Pan General purpose, most common, wide bearing surface
Flat Sits flush with the surface, 82 degree countersink
Hex Wrench drive, high torque capability
Button Low profile dome, clean appearance
Cheese Straight sides, good for tight spaces
Truss Wide head, spreads load on soft materials
    Round Simple dome, general assembly
Fillister Higher head, deeper screwdriver engagement
Oval Countersunk with rounded top, decorative finish

    Decision 2 – Drive type

    Drive When to pick it
Phillips Everyday use, screwdriver stays centered
Slotted Simple design, light duty applications
Hex socket Allen key drive, high torque, tight clearance
Torx Maximum torque transfer, no cam out

    Decision 3 – Material

    Material Where to use it
304 stainless Outdoor, damp environments, general rust protection
316 stainless Marine, coastal, chemical exposure
    Brass Electronics, non-magnetic, decorative appearance
Steel Cost effective, general industrial, zinc plated
    Aluminium Lightweight, non-magnetic, weight sensitive
Bronze Marine, corrosion resistant, bearing applications
    Copper Electrical conductivity, grounding

    Decision 4 – Strength grade

    Grade When to pick it
    4.8 Light duty, general assembly
6.8 Moderate loads, higher clamping force
    8.8 Industrial, heavy duty applications
    10.9 High strength, demanding environments
    12.9 Critical fastening, maximum strength

    Where are they used?

Electronics enclosures, PCB mounting, machinery assembly, automotive components, marine equipment, instrument panels, furniture, appliances, and general mechanical construction. Anywhere you have a pre tapped hole or use a nut.

    FAQ

What is the difference between a machine screw and a regular screw?

Regular screws like wood screws or self tapping screws create their own threads. Machine screws need a pre tapped hole or a nut.

Do I need a tapped hole or can I use a nut?

Either works. If you have a tapped hole, drive the screw directly in. If you have a nut, put the nut on the other side and thread the screw through.

What is the most common head style?

Pan head. It is the standard choice for most assembly work.

What is the best material for outdoor use?

304 or 316 stainless steel. 316 gives you extra protection against salt and chemicals.

    What does Class 8.8 mean?

It is a strength grade. Tensile strength is about 800 MPa. Suitable for most industrial applications.

    Can I get custom sizes?

Yes. Send us your drawing or sample. We will make what you need.

What drive type is best for high torque?

Hex socket or Torx. Both handle high torque without stripping.
